Frequently Asked Questions
What can I do to improve my relationships?
Improving relational well-being at its foundations starts with a baseline of emotional regulation which involves a self attuned connection to our own emotions and those of our significant others. It relies on mutual respect , compassion toward self and others, consistent boundaries and clear communication. Therapy can provide support in seeing where you can expand on your strengths and weave in new skills to support and expand on your experience of fulfilling relationships with others.
How can somatic therapy benefit me?
Somatic therapy has many benefits. It helps:
1. develop skills for emotional regulation
2. support an increased connectedness to the body and your own internal "ways of knowing"
3. invite a deeper notice of self that can benefit your healing and living in more alignment with your own unique values
4. expand capacity to process and integrate any relational trauma fragmentation stored in the body
5. connect us more closely to our senses, sense of being, and aliveness

What is trauma-informed therapy?
Trauma-informed therapy is a framework that involves understanding, recognizing, and responding to the effects of all types of trauma and the way they impact our experience of the world and of vulnerability and the related potential for shame. It prioritizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety for both therapist and client. It helps survivors build a sense of agency and empowerment in their therapeutic process and in their day to day lives.
How does counselling help with grief?
Bereavement isn't always a straightforward process of navigating "stages" and acceptance of changes and "new normal"s. Relationships are complex and the need to connect with loved ones persists beyond what life sometimes affords us in terms of time. Therapy can be a place to share the multi-layered experience of recovering from a loss, heal from associated trauma, process complications around the loss or the relationship with the loved one, and integrate the loss to eventually...allow for a new way of connecting and attending to the loved one and relationship beyond death.
What is a sex-positive approach and what does sex therapy involve?
Sex positive approach is a shame free therapeutic view of sexuality that invites folks working through shifts in identity, relationship, intimate expression, and related challenges to feel safe talking about themselves, their experience, their relationship with their sexual selves and their needs for therapeutic healing and support.
Sex therapy is oriented to these topics and more and is not very different from therapy about anything else. It only involves talk, it only covers what you feel safe enough discussing, and it represents a counsellors comfort and professional preparedness to safely, ethically, and efficaciously offer therapy in this area.
