Frequently Asked Questions
Do you direct bill insurance?
No, I don't bill direct.
RCCs (Registered Clinical Counsellors) are increasingly covered by extended health benefits. You will received a detailed timely receipt to submit if your benefits program deems RCC services eligible. Clients are welcome to reach out if receipts require additional details for access to fair reimbursement
What are your fees and cancellation policy?
Individual ($165) and couples ($180) sessions run 50-minutes long
80-minutes sessions can be booked by request at rates of $247.50 for individuals and $270 for couples.
I have a strict 48-hour late cancellation/no show policy. Half session fees are due with less than 48-hours of cancellation. Full session fees are due with less than 24-hours of cancellation (or no show). These policies insure that cancelled session time can be picked up by clients in need. The fees support the fiscal stability of my business and protect the therapeutic relationship.
What does booking a session with you involve?
I use Jane App in my practice. Once we've had our free consultation and decided to move forward together, I will book your session into Jane and you'll receive a link via email to my brief Intake and Informed Consent paperwork . I also require that each client has a credit card on file to cover any missed or late cancel/no show fees. There is an optional Intake Questionnaire that you can use to fill in any gaps we might've missed in our consult call or to note any goals or aspects of your well-being and context that you'd like me to know before we begin. If you're booking an in-person session, I send out an email with address and tips about my building.
What happens in a first session?
First sessions always include a warm welcome, a review of Informed Consent, room for questions if you have them. I also find that a first session feels a lot of different ways to a lot of different people and that having a sense of how it's feeling for you, can help me support a sense of safety and comfort as we start to build a map for how you need or want to work. I invite folks to share openly about what that's like so that our collaborative relationship starts from a foundation of good attunement to you.
What can I do to improve my relationships?
Healthy relationships start with emotional regulation: noticing and steadying your own feelings while staying attuned to the people close to you. Mutual respect, compassion for yourself and others, consistent boundaries, and clear communication build on that. Therapy can help you recognize your strengths and practice new skills for more fulfilling relationships.
How can somatic therapy benefit me?
Somatic therapy has many benefits. It can helpyou:
-
Build skills for emotional regulation.
-
Reconnect with your body's signals and your own inner ways of knowing.
-
Notice yourself more deeply and live in line with your values.
-
Process the effects of trauma that show up in your body.
-
Feel more connected to your senses and your sense of being alive
What is trauma-informed therapy?
Trauma-informed therapy recognizes how all types of trauma shape the way we experience the world, vulnerability, and shame. It puts physical, psychological, and emotional safety first, for both client and therapist. It helps survivors build a sense of agency in therapy and daily life.
How does counselling help with grief?
Bereavement isn't always a straightforward process of navigating "stages" , acceptance of changes and "new normal"s. Relationships are complex and the need to connect with loved ones persists beyond what life sometimes affords us in terms of time. Therapy can be a place to share the multi-layered experience of recovering from a loss, heal from associated trauma, process complications around the loss or the relationship with the loved one, and integrate the loss to eventually...allow for a new way of connecting and attending to the loved one and relationship beyond death.
What is a sex-positive approach and what does sex therapy involve?
Sex positive approach is a shame free therapeutic view of sexuality. It invites your to safely talk openly about identity, relationship, intimate expression, and related challenges.
Sex therapy is talk therapy on that includes these topics, and it isn't very different from therapy about anything else. It only involves conversation, and it only covers what you feel safe enough to discuss. Ethical work in this area requires that a counsellor is comfortable and open to holding these topics and that they have additional area-specific training,
